quilt waffles from Making A Lather

We have felt the aftermath of the tropical storm elsa here in Indiana. Lots of rain and mild winds hit yesterday, and, it looks like more rain today. The garden is happy, the gardener not so much.

coreopsis -good for disinfection and metabolic disorders and it is pretty

It is always a pleasure when the quilt is off the floor at the longarm. I am making progress on aunt eliza's star. It is a big quilt. I am doing swirls, nothing fancy.

I have a few waffle blocks left to make. I need to make more pieced rows for ...

such a blessing from Making A Lather

I spent Sunday with this little guy. He is such a blessing. He is our 11th Grandchild, 9 of them are boys. I had 4 boys and 1 girl. So we are used to boys around here. Here is the quilt I made for him.

All my Carolina chain blocks are in set of 4... all 1 million. I can do this on this quilt because each row has an even number, and doubles.

sheep pillow from Making A Lather

This is  an old rug hooking/ needle punch project that I have not finished. I took it with me to rug hooking along with my featherweight, and sewed it into a pillow. I used a pillow form from Goodwill for the stuffing. Besides the cute sheep, I liked the project  since it was hooked on a wool fabric instead of a typical rug hooking backing. Before I start a new rug project, I am trying to empty the unfinished drawer. I still have 2 or 3 bigger projects in the drawer to finish.

I like that is a two sided ...

sea swept progress from Making A Lather

At retreat this weekend, I sewed the last 4 blocks I need for sea swept. I ordered studio 180 template for the sashing. I think it will save me the headache of math "to fit" what I have already made. I have the squared squared template. I ordered diamond rects. hooray.  I still have many cut pieces - I may make it larger.

There is always something scrappy going on at the sewing machine. This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern from her book addicted to scraps called Carolina Chain. I had the blocks done in April.  I use them as a ...

seeing stars from Making A Lather

This is as far as I have gotten to a finish with this Bonnie Hunter quilt ufo, that, I started before she printed the pattern. I didn't like her version (xing) from string frenzy, so it was time to decide how to finish it. I have a vintage red fabric, I want for the borders.

I have bonnie Hunter quilt zuckerwatte from her book string fling. on the frame to quilt. So I may have a finish next week.

June one monthly goal from Making A Lather

I didn't finish my goal for last month. I had hoped to get aunt Elizas star to the top stage. I did get half of the top together. I think I will still get the top finished before I put it away again.

For June, I want to switch the ufo project to a purple ufo for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I want to finish the bonnie Hunter quilt zuckerwatte from her book string fling. I made the top during the pink month. And I will use this month to quilt it and get it bound ...

eliza star from Making A Lather

I have started the sashing for Elizas star. So far, I have sewn 2 inch wof strips to each side of 5 1/2 inch wof strip of gingham x 4. I subcut them at 2 inches. I didn't calculate the sashings between rows, so, I will have to make and cut more.

I wanted to see at least a few sewn together. Not all the blocks are exactly the same size ( how did that happen haha) .I have to do a bit of stretching or easing. Most of the pieces are on the bias, so, I can.

I ...

eliza from Making A Lather

I have found a large piece of red gingham in my stash that I like for the sashings for Aunt Eliza'a star. I think I want to do a nine patch in the center of the sashing. This is my may one monthly goal., and I need to get going on it if I want to get it done.

I have ALL the 16 patch blocks made for the quilted twins free pattern called swingin checkerboard. I am not sure if I will look to the next step or put it away for a bit. This has certainly been ...

May Goal from Making A Lather

I am not getting comment notification in my email - any fixes?

This is a Bonnie HUnter quilt ufo, that, I started before she printed the pattern. She showed making the blocks during a quilt cam, and, we were at least a year away from the book ( string frenzy) release. I had  most of the string centers in my stash of crumb blocks. I hunted around for the pattern, made it in 3 different sizes, chose my favorite size, and, made them in our room in Florida over Christmas. I thought I could get ahead a bit by having my blocks ...

sparkle top from Making A Lather

After considering adding another row to the Christmas sparkle quilt  a free pattern found here. I made more blocks and added to the top before counting it done. But, now, I need to make the decision to add borders. I have plenty of fabric. IT doesn't seem big on the library floor, but, it does at home when I lay it out to decide.

I am always impatient to visit my favorite greenhouse in the Spring. And as a warning to be patient, it was only 47 degrees. We bought asparagus, cabbage, onions, and Jasmine. I have never seen ...

to do: blue ridge beauty from Making A Lather

I am restless about finishing ufos. I am on track with my goals for the month, but, I want to add something more interesting. I have been choosing my ufos by the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. April is blue. I have an older ufo that keeps being passed over, that, I want to at least make a plan for finishing. This is a Bonnie Hunter quilt called blue ridge beauty from her book adventures with leader enders. It takes a bit to figure out what is still left in the box after I open it. It looks like ...

A new Goal from Making A Lather

It is a new month and I want to set new goals for the one monthly goal at elm street quilts

The color of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy is blue. As the UFo I want to finish, I have chosen floating stars. I think it just needs borders and quilted. I started this quilt with a class in March of 2017.   Most of the blocks were made then. And the top was was made by July 2017. I think I stopped because there was a border decision to be made, and I wasn't ...

rows upon rows from Making A Lather

I have all the blocks for almost amish from Jos country junction here. in rows.

And I have started to assemble the top. It is slow going for me, as I am angularly challenged. There is a graph in the book I am following. I can get the angle wrong while looking right at it. All I have to do is look at the pieces and they thread. I will need to spend a lot of time with a lint brush.

country roads top from Making A Lather

I found crocus blooming and rhubarb is peeking it's head out of the ground

I added a 2 1/2 inch border to my country roads quilt. I finished the top at the last retreat. It was part of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy for the last two years. I made the blocks in each month's color.

I needed a 97 x97 back, so, it was time to use a wide backing that I bought during a backing sale at joann fabrics. I chose more yellow for the binding and this quilt now lives in the ...

a new old project from Making A Lather

Shhh I am not really working on this project. It is not on the list for the month.. or the year..

It was part of the huge reorganization of ufo projects. I felt sorry for it. I knew it would not get picked as the top ten projects for many years to come. It would just sit there, looking sad every time, that it was not chosen. And, all I would have to do is sew a few 2 1/2 inch strips together, that are already cut.

This is a quilt called almost amish from Jos country junction here ...

new label maker from Making A Lather

I have a strange new addiction. My old label maker was acting funny, and, I couldn't read the labels on the project boxes during a search.  I happened to find this label maker at goodwill, and, had no idea if it would work or not. I took the chance and ordered the cartridges.  I really, really like it, and, all I want to do is re sort all my project boxes and add the new labels.

First, I was happy. Then, I was depressed - I have way to many. Then, I was content to just keep after it.  Now ...

sparkle Christmas from Making A Lather

I cracked open the sparkle box and started sewing the blocks. I had already cut this out a few years ago. It seemed an easy project to tackle. I am using this UFO for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. Green is the color for March and a good Christmas quilt has plenty of green. I played round and round with chain piecing the squares in a square.

This project has been hiding in the ufo closet, so, it was fun to revisit the fabrics. It will be a fun " to go" project since all the thinking is ...

to do: one monthly goal from Making A Lather

It's a new month with new possibilities. The rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappys color for March is green. I have an older ufo in green that I want to complete for the month. This was one of my first EPPs. I remember starting it on the plane coming home from visiting my daughter several years ago. I knew I would be sad to leave her, so I picked something to do. I haven't worked on it in a long time. I wanted to make it bigger, but, now, I just want to finish it.

Another ufo I ...

boxy star finish from Making A Lather

I am happy to report I have the quilt  done for boxy stars in yellow and black. I started this in 2016 to use a jelly roll.  I have worked on it as part of the rainbow scrap challenge this year. February's color is yellow. This is an older UFO that would not make it into the top 10 quilts I want to finish, but, still needs some attention. It is good to clean out some of these types of UFOs. I started the month with the blocks already made, and I needed to assemble the top and quilt ...
